Information on Building Permits

Residential Building Permit Instructions

1. Obtain a Building Permit Application from the Utility Clerk at City Hall or click on the link below and fill out in detail as much information as possible. 2. Obtain Utility Permits for water, sewer, gas, and electric.

3. Submit the building permit application to the Utility Clerk at City Hall along with the building permit fee (based on size of home) and the building inspection fee ($300.00) Utility permits and hookup fees may be submitted as construction proceeds; however it is highly recommended that they are submitted at the same time as the building permit.

4. Stake all corners of the home as it will sit on your lot. Expose all property corners.

5. Building inspector will review the application and visit the home site to make sure the home is staked as depicted on the building plans.

6. Building inspector will contact you to let you know that construction may now begin.

8. Upon completion of the final inspection, you will be notified that an occupancy permit has been issued and  you may now move into your new home.

 

Other Building Permits

Demolition Permits are required for all structures that are to be removed including decks, patios, garages, sheds, buildings, and similar type structures.

Building Permits are required for erecting fences, sheds, decks, patios, pools, garages, play houses, building additions, stone walls, car ports, pergolas and similar type accessory structures. Building permits are not required for remodeling on the inside, re-roofing and re-siding a home or business.

The building permit process consists of the following steps:

1. Obtain a Building Permit Application from the Utility Clerk at City Hall or click on the following link and fill out in detail as much information as possible. Building Permit Application.

2. Submit the building permit application to the Utility Clerk at City Hall along with the building permit application fee (based on size of the structure, $25.00 minimum).

3. Stake the corners of the structure to be permitted and uncover all property corners.

4. Building inspector will review the application and visit the site to make sure the structure is placed correctly on the lot.

5. Building inspector will contact you and let you know that you may proceed with the project after you have signed the Building Permit. The Building Permit will be with the Utility Clerk at City Hall.
